During my sophomore year of college, I met Dr. Paul Mullen and was instantly inspired to make the kind of impact on the world that he has made. Since switching my career goals during my sophomore year of college from emergency room surgeon to clinical psychologist, I have fallen in love with what I believe to be the best parts of therapy: being with people at their most authentic and vulnerable selves, helping individuals make meaning of their life experiences, and growing alongside each of my patients.
Dr. Keeney specializes in helping children, adolescents, young adults, and athletes identify and break maladaptive coping patterns to achieve their desired lives. She takes a client-centered and systematic approach to therapy – taking into consideration not only the individual, but how the family, school, work, peers, and other professionals play a role in the onset and/or maintenance of the presenting problem.
The most important part of therapy for anyone seeking support is to feel heard by a trusted professional. It is important for us all to have a space where we feel like we can express ourselves, and in turn be challenged, without fear of judgement.
Dr. Keeney has over 10 years of experience providing therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and athletes. She enjoys working with individuals in a manner that allows her to share in not only navigating life’s challenges, but also in celebrating life’s “Ws”. Dr. Keeney draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help individuals gain the insight, skills, and confidence they need. She also provides psychoeducation to the client’s support system to ensure that progress continues outside of therapy. Jacey supports individuals who struggle with disordered eating, body image issues, anxiety, depression, and difficulty adjusting to life transitions.
Dr. Keeney understands how difficult it can be to find the “perfect fit” therapist, which is why she provides therapy with a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach. With a down-to-earth style, she aims to make you feel comfortable, yet challenged, during your sessions.
Dr. Keeney has been under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Mullen on the treatment of children and adolescents since she was an undergraduate student. She also works as a half-time senior lecturer at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
If you are ready to take the first step towards a happier and more fulfilling life, Dr. Keeney is ready to help provide compassionate guidance and support. Together, you can navigate the twists and turns of life and find a realistic path forward.
